限位開關(guān)又稱行程開關(guān)，可以安裝在相對靜止的物體（如固定架、門框等，簡稱靜物）上或者運(yùn)動的物體（如行車、門等，簡稱動物）上。當(dāng)動物接近靜物時，開關(guān)的連桿驅(qū)動開關(guān)的接點(diǎn)引起閉合的接點(diǎn)分?jǐn)嗷蛘邤嚅_的接點(diǎn)閉合。由開關(guān)接點(diǎn)開、合狀態(tài)的改變?nèi)タ刂齐娐泛碗姍C(jī)。
限位開關(guān)就是用以限定機(jī)械設(shè)備的運(yùn)動極限位置的電氣開關(guān)。限位開關(guān)有接觸式的和非接觸式的。接觸式的比較直觀，機(jī)械設(shè)備的運(yùn)動部件上，安裝上行程開關(guān)，與其相對運(yùn)動的固定點(diǎn)上安裝極限位置的擋塊，或者是相反安裝位置。當(dāng)行程開關(guān)的機(jī)械觸頭碰上擋塊時，切斷了（或改變了）控制電路，機(jī)械就停止運(yùn)行或改變運(yùn)行。由于機(jī)械的慣性運(yùn)動，這種行程開關(guān)有一定的“超行程”以保護(hù)開關(guān)不受損壞。非接觸式的形式很多，常見的有干簧管、光電式、感應(yīng)式等，這幾種形式在電梯中都能夠見到。當(dāng)然還有更多的先進(jìn)形式。限位開關(guān)是一種常用的小電流主令電器。利用生產(chǎn)機(jī)械運(yùn)動部件的碰撞使其觸頭動作來實(shí)現(xiàn)接通或分?jǐn)嗫刂齐娐?，達(dá)到一定的控制目的。通常，這類開關(guān)被用來限制機(jī)械運(yùn)動的位置或行程，使運(yùn)動機(jī)械按一定位置或行程自動停止、反向運(yùn)動、變速運(yùn)動或自動往返運(yùn)動等。在電氣控制系統(tǒng)中，限位開關(guān)的作用是實(shí)現(xiàn)順序控制、定位控制和位置狀態(tài)的檢測。用于控制機(jī)械設(shè)備的行程及限位保護(hù)。構(gòu)造：由操作頭、觸點(diǎn)系統(tǒng)和外殼組成。在實(shí)際生產(chǎn)中，將限位開關(guān)安裝在預(yù)先安排的位置，當(dāng)裝于生產(chǎn)機(jī)械運(yùn)動部件上的模塊撞擊行程開關(guān)時，限位開關(guān)的觸點(diǎn)動作，實(shí)現(xiàn)電路的切換。因此，行程開關(guān)是一種根據(jù)運(yùn)動部件的行程位置而切換電路的電器，它的作用原理與按鈕類似。限位開關(guān)廣泛用于各類機(jī)床和起重機(jī)械，用以控制其行程、進(jìn)行終端限位保護(hù)。在電梯的控制電路中，還利用行程開關(guān)來控制開關(guān)轎門的速度、自動開關(guān)門的限位，轎廂的上、下限位保護(hù)。
